“The local faith community that gathers in the name of Jesus is a place of hospitality for all God’s people. Welcoming children as full participants in the life of God’s people is one expression of hospitality that every particular religious community can and must do.”

Sunday School for Elementary-Aged Children
“Footprints through Faith” – Our rotation curriculum combines Bible story, arts, worship, missions and cooking to ensure the best possible learning environment. We want to give children a firm Christian foundation to prepare them to deal with difficult everyday issues. Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m. All school-aged children attend the 11:00 Worship Service.

Sunday School for Preschoolers
Toddlers through 5 year olds (who have not begun Kindergarten) enjoy age-appropriate Sunday School with extended care during the worship hour. Our emphasis with this age group focuses on learning through play, developing relationships, and fostering a love for their faith community.

A nursery is provided for infants from 9:45 a.m.noon.

Choir
The three children’s choirs, spanning from age 4 to 5th grade, meet weekly during the school year on Wednesday evening. Please see Music for more details.

Worship
Children are welcomed and respected in worship services as important members of our faith community. We believe an appreciation for worship is cultivated as children are active participants in singing hymns, reading litanies, following along as scripture is read and praying with their community. Children are periodically involved as worship leaders through singing and leading prayers and/or readings. Finally, children’s worship bulletins and a weekly children’s time are provided to help children understand the main emphasis of each Sunday’s worship.

Children under 5 are provided with care during the worship hour.

Adventure Club
Adventure Club is our Wednesday night programming and is for children ages 4-5 and for children in grades 1-5. Children in grades 1-5 are in Adventure Club from 6:00 - 6:45, while children ages 4-5 are in choir.  At 6:45 we switch and children ages 4-5 are in Adventure Club from 6:45-7:30 while the children in grades 1-5 are in choir.

Much of our time together is focused around loving our neighbors and learning more about them – in our neighborhood, in Charlotte, and around the world. Projects such as making snack bags for Room in the Inn, making bracelets for our friends in Cuba, learning more about the different religions of the world, and making gifts for the new owner of the Habitat house our church built are just a few of the things we do.

We also take very seriously that we should love ourselves. Some of our gathering times are spent caring for ourselves through activities which develop stronger relationships and stronger bodies.  We believe that through exercise, laughter, and fellowship, we show we love God through loving the bodies that God created.

Faith Talk
One Sunday afternoon a month, Russ and Amy (the pastors) spend time discussing faith with the 4th and 5th graders. This class is designed to help children understand the basics of Christian faith, and some of the particulars of Baptist tradition and of this church’s specific practices. There are six sessions per year, with a year-ending time of celebration. Though we do not assume that all children will be baptized at the conclusion of the classes, we hope that the course will be important in helping children and parents discuss this important step of faith.

Camp Prism (4th through 6th grades)
Located in Flat Rock, NC, Camp Prism is held at Bon Clarken Retreat Center. This summer camp offers the rising 4th - 6th graders a four-day overnight spiritual camp. The children are exposed to both biblically-based learning experiences as well as recreational opportunities such as rock climbing and ropes courses.

Vacation Bible School
In the summer, the church holds a week of themed Christian education for all ages. VBS offers a casual inter-generational learning environment.

Leadership
The children are led by Michael Kellett, Minister with Youth and Children. email Michael
