Active Volunteer Opportunities

Park Road participates directly in the following programs:

Roof Above

Dinners at Roof Above

Roof Above has decided to discontinue the hot lunch program on Saturdays. Instead, they proposed to us the opportunity to prepare and serve supper on Saturday evenings every other month. Park Road will pay for the meal from our mission budget, as we have been doing, and the shelter will purchase the food and have it on hand. Our volunteers will arrive at the men’s shelter at 3:30 in the afternoon to prepare the meal, with supper served at 5p, and we would be able to leave before 6p. We will maintain the schedule of helping on the second Saturday, every other month

Location: 1210 North Tryon Street

Hours: 3:30 to 6pm

We need volunteers from time to time to help with transportation for our Honduran family. One of the recurring needs is for someone to take Yolani grocery shopping each week, usually on Saturday or Sunday but Monday would work as well.

The bulk of the shopping can be done at Walmart or Aldi's or Target and afterwards, there are several items that require a stop at Compare Foods where some Honduran products are sold. The entire trip takes about 90 minutes. Speaking Spanish is not required, but being familiar with Google Translate would be helpful. Other transportation needs arise occasionally and these will be posted here as well. Please review the available slots in the sign up link and pick one that works for your schedule.

NOTE: Each weekend (Sat.-Mon.) only requires one person to sign up! Please choose the day you would like to go and note the time you will arrive at their house. Dan is available to answer any questions you might have. Thank you!

Support Our Schools

We collect school supplies for Marie G. Davis, so that students have the supplies they need to start the school year. Last August we packed enough bags to carry us well into the fall, check back here for upcoming opportunities to participate in our next snack packing event.

Books will be also continue to be provided for every child at Marie G. Davis and there will be opportunities to assist with this project TBA.

Park Road also has these volunteer opportunities at various times of the year.   Please call the church office for more details on how you can become involved:

  • QC Family Tree - Periodically, we will assist with this Hospitality House in the Enderly Park area of Charlotte by providing and serving a community meal and/or helping with Household projects such as painting.

  • Community Garden Team – create a garden to provide support to the local Loaves and Fishes.

  • Caring Church Companions (formerly ICU) – Volunteer teams are created, as needed, to provide basic assistance to church members (from home maintenance to financial advice).  Volunteers are placed on a list to be called when a need arises.

  • PRBC Needlers- A group of church members who share their knitting and sewing skills to create items for the needy, especially for babies and the elderly. Prayer shawls are presented to members of the church and the community who are experiencing difficult situations. Other projects include uniforms of for girls in Haiti, chemo hats, and lap quilts for Levine Children's Hospital and Hospice. Volunteers are needed to knit and sew. No prior experience is necessary – we can teach you.
